I have come across Fernando Martins Godoy’s work in Juxtapoz online and love it. I really enjoy viewing new contemporary ways of using ink, I’m always concerned that its not taken as seriously as oils and I am pretty set in trying to establish myself as an artist using ink in my main practice but Godoy shows how it can be used skilfully and originally. In his portraits he uses layers of ink to create depth and gives his subject haunting stares using the deep blacks to pin pint eyes, the images look strangely robotic and vacant yet extremely epressive at the same time.
The landscape paintings are particularly impressive Godoys shows obvious skill in making such straight shapes and clean tones, they remind me of graphics rendering and conceptual drawings for architecture. The link to the Juxtapoz article can be found below.
